Introduction
Computer lenses, also called progressive lenses or near-vision lenses, are designed to offer optimal visual comfort for people with presbyopia who regularly work in front of a screen. With the increasing amount of time spent on digital devices, these specialized lenses help reduce eye strain and promote a more natural posture in everyday life.
1. What is a progressive lens?
Progressive lenses are specifically designed for near and intermediate-distance activities, such as using a computer. Like progressive lenses, they have a near vision zone located at the bottom of the lens. However, the intermediate zone is positioned higher to allow you to look at the screen straight ahead without tilting your head. The upper part of the lens provides clear vision up to about 3 to 4 meters, allowing you to see into a room, attend a meeting, or move around without removing your glasses.
2. Why don't they replace distance lenses?
Progressive lenses are designed for supplementary use. They optimize near and intermediate vision and do not provide clear distance vision. Therefore, they are not a replacement for progressive lenses or distance glasses, but they do offer a wider field of vision and greater postural comfort for working on a screen.
3. Varilux Digitime: A Solution Adapted to Digital Uses
With the proliferation of screens, new visual constraints have emerged:
Eye strain
Difficulty reading small print
Neck and shoulder tension
Varilux Digitime lenses were developed to meet these needs. They offer:
An ultra-close vision zone for smartphones
A natural posture in front of the computer
Wide and comfortable vision for all screens
For added protection, they can be combined with Crizal Prevencia coating, which selectively filters harmful blue-violet light and UV rays.
4. What Activities Are They Useful For?
In addition to computer work, progressive lenses are perfectly suited for precision activities: sewing, reading, cooking, DIY projects, or any task requiring close-up vision. However, they should not be used for activities requiring clear distance vision, such as driving.
Conclusion
Progressive lenses are an ideal solution for improving visual comfort for presbyopic individuals working on screens. To determine if they are suitable for your needs, it is recommended to consult an optician or optometrist.
